Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Cultivation to lead and manage the full scope of our cannabis cultivation operations, including both indoor and outdoor environments. This position is integral to ensuring Honey Green produces consistent, high-quality cannabis that meets all compliance standards while supporting company growth and innovation.

Reporting directly to our VP of Manufacturing, the Director of Cultivation will oversee two cultivation licenses. This role involves leading and cultivating a growing team of over 40 staff members, with plans for continued expansion. The ideal candidate is an operational expert and dynamic leader who thrives in a hands-on role, with the ability to effectively direct large-scale cultivation systems across both physical and digital realms. The Director of Cultivation will play a crucial role in shaping the operational success of our cultivation operations while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

This position will follow established grow styles and methods developed in partnership with our cultivation experts. Adherence to these methods is critical to preserving genetic integrity, optimizing plant health, and maintaining brand consistency. The Director will implement these methods while overseeing operations, leading teams, and driving innovation and productivity within those guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of cultivation leaders.
  • Spend a minimum of one shift per month with weekend and night crews, providing hands-on leadership, fostering team engagement, and ensuring alignment with operational goals.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, implement performance improvement plans, and provide strategic coaching for growth.
  • Assist in developing and following clear departmental goals and KPIs aligned with company objectives and cultivation partner standards.
  • Utilize systems for knowledge-sharing, operational consistency, and accountability across cultivation teams.
     
Operational Management
  • Direct all aspects of indoor and outdoor cultivation workflows, including planning, planting, canopy management, pest and disease control, nutrient schedules, and fertigation strategies.
     
  • Oversee and ensure the success of growing processes for our Indoor Grow, Outdoor Grow, and Greenhouse operations, with a deep understanding of the unique needs and practices for each.
     
  • Leverage knowledge and experience with a variety of mixed light growing techniques, ensuring that light usage and environmental conditions are optimized for plant health and productivity.
     
  • Ensure daily execution of cultivation practices aligns with methods outlined by cultivation partners while incorporating best practices for water and nutrient delivery.
     
  • Optimize resource allocation, such as labor, water, lighting, nutrients, and equipment usage, to improve operational efficiency and overall crop quality.
     
  • Develop, document, and maintain detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both physical operations and digital tracking platforms, ensuring consistency and compliance across all cultivation methods.
     
  • Ensure cultivation timelines are met while upholding flower quality standards, using data-driven decisions to guide the cultivation process and optimize yields.
     
Strategy & Planning
  • Develop and execute both short-term and long-term cultivation strategies in alignment with business goals.
  • Leverage data analytics, environmental control systems, and digital cultivation tools to track trends and improve operations.
  • Monitor and adapt to evolving state and local regulations and implement changes proactively.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to plan facility upgrades, expansion projects, and partner-driven innovations.
     
Staff Training & Development
  • Design and lead training programs to increase technical expertise and operational efficiency.
  • Establish expectations around adherence to cultivation partner methods and internal compliance standards.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and high performance.
     
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure full compliance with Missouri cannabis regulations, health and safety standards, and internal compliance protocols.
  • Oversee data tracking through METRC, and other software platforms.
  • Generate reports on KPIs including yield, cost per gram, crop cycle timelines, and labor efficiency.
  • Serve as a primary liaison for regulatory audits and inspections.

Physical Requirements
  • Manual Dexterity and Hand Strength
    • Ability to handle plants, tools, and equipment with precision and strength for tasks such as pruning, transplanting, trimming, and maintenance. This requires attention to detail in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Standing, Sitting, and Mobility
    • The ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, and move freely throughout various indoor and outdoor cultivation spaces, greenhouses, office areas, and other work environments for extended periods.
  • Lifting and Carrying
    • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs., including equipment, containers, plant material, and other cultivation-related items. This may involve occasional heavy lifting during harvest periods or when handling large containers or equipment
  • Repetitive Motions
    • Frequent use of hands, wrists, and arms for manual tasks, including trimming, trellising, pruning, maintenance, and data entry, especially in fast-paced and seasonal cultivation periods.
  • Pace and Attention to Detail
    • Work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality, especially during harvest cycles or rapid environmental changes.
  • Visual and Quality Inspection
    • Ability to visually assess plant health, equipment function, and environmental readings to maintain operational standards.
       
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Cultivation Environment
    • Work will take place across indoor grow rooms, outdoor fields, greenhouses, and in an office setting, requiring the ability to adapt to different environments, both controlled and outdoor, under varying weather conditions.
  • Sanitation, Cleanliness & PPE
    • Strict adherence to hygiene protocols is required, with the consistent use of PPE to prevent contamination and maintain a clean and safe environment in all cultivation and processing areas.
  • Noise Exposure
    • Exposure to moderate to high noise levels from HVAC systems, lighting fixtures, irrigation equipment, fans, trimmers, and other cultivation machinery is expected in both indoor and outdoor work environments.
  • Odor Exposure
    • Regular exposure to strong cannabis odors, especially in flowering, harvest, and processing zones, is part of the role.
  • Seasonal Workload & Schedule Flexibility
    • Must be available for extended hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, particularly during peak planting, harvest, and high-demand periods. Flexibility to report to work on short notice in response to urgent weather conditions.
  • Agricultural Chemicals & Fertilizers
    • Occasional exposure to agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, and pest management treatments will be necessary in compliance with safety standards.
  • Team-Oriented & Fast-Paced Environment
    • Requires strong collaboration, adaptability, and coordination with teams across multiple departments. The role will demand the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Compliance-Driven Operations
    • Daily operations must align with state and company cannabis regulations, requiring strict adherence to documentation, tracking, and regulatory standards.
  • Ergonomic Considerations
    • Anti-fatigue mats, adjustable workspaces, and ergonomic practices are promoted, along with the use of proper lifting techniques to minimize physical strain during repetitive tasks.
       
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, management, or engineering (advanced degree preferred).
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Proven experience managing large teams at varying levels of employment, with strong leadership skills in both operational and supervisory capacities.
  • Minimum 5 years of cannabis cultivation experience, including 2+ years in a senior or director-level leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of cannabis genetics, phenotyping, and environmental optimization.
  • Experience with commercial cultivation partner programs or SOP alignment models is preferred.
  • Proficiency in integrated cultivation management software, data analysis platforms, and industry-specific tools.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Missouri Agent Card.
  • Proven success in scaling cultivation programs and optimizing yield/cost ratios.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including a minimum of one shift per month with weekend and night crews to ensure direct team engagement and operational oversight.
